Let's go back to Magneto's X-Men past.
Soon after Weapon X and Jean Grey leave the group, the team is attacked by Wolverine (not Logan, but a mysterious mutant in the service of Apocalypse, with the power to temporarily enhance humans).
Wolverine, by order of Apocalypse, must kill someone dear to Magneto.
He discovers that there is an attraction between Rogue and Magneto, despite her having a bond with Gambit.
During the battle Gambit understands Rogue's choice, who prefers to stay with Magneto.
