Wolverine returns to Canada, to recover past memories, after the deadly experience against the Yakuza.
In the snowy forest he meets a couple of forest rangers, who are chasing a dangerous criminal with a girl hostage.
Logan joins them.
The youngest of the guards is immediately killed by the fugitive, with a sniper shot.
The older guard tells Logan, during the chase, two episodes from his past.
One dates back to the times of the Second World War, during the Normandy landings.
His corporal saved his life against a German patrol, slaughtering them all using only a knife.
The second memory concerns an encounter with the Hunter of Darkness, a legendary creature of those forests, which he shot.
The Hunter of Darkness (a white-furred werewolf, resembling a Wendigo) joins the hunt, first clashing with Logan.
When the creature smells Logan, he remembers their first meeting, many years ago.
Logan freed the creature from a bear trap and lured the hunter away from him.
The senior guard is mortally wounded by the fugitive and finally realizes that his previous memories were of Logan.
Wolverine rescues the hostage, while The Hunter of Darkness devours the fugitive.

One of the more ambiguous tales of the series, starring Kitty Pryde.
While Excalibur is summoned by Opal-Luna Saturnyne, Majestrix of the Omniverse, to answer for the chaos caused in the Multiverse, Kitty enjoys her new life with Courtney Ross, on Earth-616.
The bond between the two women is immediately extremely morbid.
Kitty had already met Courtney at the beginning of the series, finding her immediately likeable.
But that Courtney was taken down by an evil version of her from a parallel universe, so her trust seems misplaced.
Courtney charms Kitty with her luxurious and carefree lifestyle.
Kitty, abandoned by her friends lost in the Multiverse, lets herself be seduced by that new life and blindly entrusts herself to Courtney.
Apart from a finger in the girl's mouth, to taste the cream of a dessert, no perverse relationship can be seen between the two women, but the overtones are clear.
Meanwhile, Excalibur, after causing havoc on Otherworld, is sent back to Earth-616 by the Majestrix.
Waiting for them they find Galactus.
